Some processes do not need to be measured, but only (or also) guarded. In instrumentation, we speak of guarding when certain limits must not subseeded or exceeded. If this happens, a flashing beacon or siren sounder should be switched on. Another device, like a pump or fan, can also be switched on or off directly.
