Hoe kun je een onder- of overdruk in een ruimte bewaken?

Ruimtes worden soms bewust in onder- of overdruk gehouden te opzichte van aangrensende ruimtes. Dit wordt ook wel een drukhiërarchie genoemd. Door in een ruimte een overdruk te creëren ontstaat er bij het openen van een deur altijd een luchtstroom naar buiten. Daarmee kun je voorkomen dat vuil, bacteriën en virussen deze ruimte kunnen binnenkomen. Dit wordt onder andere toegepast in operatiekamers, isolatiekamers voor kwetsbare patiënten en in ruimtes waar medicijnen worden geproduceerd. Door een onderdruk te creëren houdt je juist gevaarlijke stoffen binnen de ruimte, bijvoorbeeld in laboratoria waar virussen worden onderzocht of met radioactieve materialen wordt gewerkt.

Als er een drukverschil tussen twee ruimtes is, dan wil je dat natuurlijk wel bewaken. Als de ventilatie niet goed werkt, of iemand laat een deur te lang open staan, zal het drukverschil wegvallen en wil je zo snel mogelijk gealarmeerd worden. Met een drukverschilmeter kun je het drukverschil tussen twee ruimtes bewaken, ook al gaat het soms om hele kleine drukverschillen van slechts een paar Pascal. Als je een drukverschilmeter kiest met rode en groene statuslampen heb je een duidelijke indicatie bij de ruimte zelf of de druk goed of juist niet goed is. Een audioalarm kan dan een volgende alarmering zijn.
