Level transmitters

A level transmitter measures the level and generates an analog or digital output signal so that the measurement can be read at another location. Analog output signals such as 4-20mA and 0-10V are still commonly used, but there are also digital versions with Hart, Modbus, Foundation Fieldbus or Profibus communication. Often a level transmitter is read on a PLC or controller that then controls a pump to fill or empty a tank. There are several measurement principles such as float, hydraustatic, capacitive, magnetic, ultrasonic and radar. Each measurement principle has its own advantages and disadvantages depending on the application.
